The Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design began in 1946 as architecture courses within the College of Engineering, with John G. Williams teaching 17 students, including future faculty members Fay Jones and Ernie Jacks.
On average each year, there are 25 students enrolled in the first-year design class.
There are currently 86 students enrolled in Landscape Architecture for the spring 2025 semester.
There are currently 297 students enrolled in Interior Architecture for the spring 2025 semester.
There are currently 523 students enrolled in Architecture for the spring 2025 semester.
Total enrollment in the Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design totaled 952 students for the Spring 2025 semester.
Fay Jones was awarded the AIA Gold Medal in 1990 for his design of Thorncrown Chapel. The AIA Gold Medal is the highest honor in American Architecture.
Marlon Blackwell was awarded the AIA Gold Medal in 2020 for his body of work including St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church and the Harvey Pediatric Clinic. The AIA Gold Medal is the highest honor in American Architecture.
