Design Camp, offered through the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, provides students in grades 9-12 with an immersive experience in architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design. Led by Fay Jones School faculty and students, campers engage in:
Design Camp has proven to be a strong recruiting tool for the Fay Jones School, with many former campers enrolling as first-year students. Full funding will provide scholarships for six students to attend Advanced Camp, ensuring access for talented students who may not otherwise have the opportunity.
The Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design began in 1946 as architecture courses within the College of Engineering, with John G. Williams teaching 17 students, including future faculty members Fay Jones and Ernie Jacks.
On average each year, there are 25 students enrolled in the first-year design class.
There are currently 86 students enrolled in Landscape Architecture for the spring 2025 semester.
There are currently 297 students enrolled in Interior Architecture for the spring 2025 semester.
There are currently 523 students enrolled in Architecture for the spring 2025 semester.
Total enrollment in the Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design totaled 952 students for the Spring 2025 semester.
Fay Jones was awarded the AIA Gold Medal in 1990 for his design of Thorncrown Chapel. The AIA Gold Medal is the highest honor in American Architecture.
Marlon Blackwell was awarded the AIA Gold Medal in 2020 for his body of work including St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church and the Harvey Pediatric Clinic. The AIA Gold Medal is the highest honor in American Architecture.
