We are so excited to tell you about this one-of-a-kind opportunity the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing (EMSON) has given us to travel to Bolgatanga, Ghana this summer! There are 14 of us EMSON students, at varying levels of the nursing program, that will be traveling to Ghana to provide community service teaching about identified needs for the villages. Some of these needs include: malaria prevention, dental hygiene, respiratory illnesses, wound care, infant hydration, nutrition/ anemia screening, CPR, safe sex, and alcohol abuse. For three weeks, we will be providing education, demonstration, and assistance about these recognized issues in several different villages in Bolgatanga.
In order for our teaching to be effectively implemented, we are in need of supplies. This is where your support would be greatly appreciated! We are in need of flashlights for Ghanaian children, dental hygiene kits, wound care kits, malaria bed nets, and coal cooking pots. Each of these items is essential for us to be able to demonstrate ways to improve the health and well-being of the people in the villages in Bolgatanga. Each item serves a vital purpose in either preventing communicable diseases or improving the health of the individuals.
We are thrilled and eager to represent EMSON and the University of Arkansas while in Ghana! And we need your help! A donation, of any monetary value, will help us meet our goal. Your gift today will have a lasting impact as we work together to improve the health of families in Ghana.

A simple tool such as a flashlight can make a big difference to a student doing homework after dark! Nursing students will provide a gift of a flashlight to Ghanaian children whose parents participate in education about sickle cell disease and alcohol abuse prevention.
Dental health is a worthy goal! Nursing students will provide a workshop on the importance of oral health with a demo on correct brushing techniques. Your help will allow us to distribute a toothbrush and toothpaste to each participant.
Treating a wound after an injury is the first line against infection! Nursing students will present high school age students with "Wound Care 101," arming students with knowledge on infection and treatments. Your generous donation will provide wound care kits for the students to take home.
Malaria can be prevented with education and a simple net! Nursing students will be working directly with village mothers to block the spread of malaria to the village's most vulnerable population: infants and children. Help us fight this disease and provide a bed net today!
Ineffective charcoal stoves result in prolonged exposure to high levels of toxic cooking smoke. This leaves the women in Ghana stricken with illnesses like emphysema, lung cancer, and bronchitis. Nursing students will provide the education, and your support will provide the ceramic coal pots that reduce cooking time and smoke production.
