Razorback Men’s Club Ice Hockey started in 2007 and has been a winning dynasty ever since. We play out of the American College Hockey Association (ACHA) and are consistently nationally ranked top ten during the regular season. Recently, we went the farthest the club has ever been nationally, by reaching the championship in 2020-21 coming in 2nd, falling in the national semifinal game in 2021-22, and we fell to the eventual champions just before the semi-final game in 2022-2023.
This year, we have banded our Division 2 team, and have already begun to dominate with our series win against Division 1 Oklahoma University at the beginning of our season.
We used to play in the SECHC. While there we won six conference titles and were a perennial contender. Since 2021 we have played in the MACHA conference. There we play teams like Missouri State and the University of Missouri, our main rivals in Division 3, and in Division 2, we play teams such as the University of Missouri, Oklahoma State University, and Florida Gulf Coast. We contend yearly for the championship and were the champions of the MACHA in the 2021-2022 season. We also have hosted multiple 1st Team All-Americans each of the past 4 seasons.
Like many other sports at the University of Arkansas, the men's ice hockey team is consistently at the top of the national rankings, wins championships, and is loved by Razorback fans. However, unlike those other teams, we are solely student-funded and the hockey team does not receive the funding that the other programs do. Because of this, our club relies on payments from the players as well as ticket and jersey sales from our faithful fans to fund the entirety of our seasons. To further help our team's financial goals, we are once again launching this project hoping that generous donors like yourself will help to keep our season funded as well as take some financial strain off of our players. We get to play the sport we love because of these donations and everything is appreciated!
Need #1: Ice Time
With 2 teams (D2 and D3) this year we want to ensure that both teams practice twice a week. We feel that both teams practicing twice a week is imperative for us to be an elite contender for nationals each year. Ice time is a significant expense for our team and is the last thing we would want to have to cut back on. Our fans are the best in the nation, and we would hate to reduce the number of home games we play just because we can't afford ice time. With your help through this FundRazor, you can make sure we can afford our ice time for practices and home games this season for both teams!
Need #2: Travel
With the the recent addition of a new team, we are now having more travel expenses. The league requires us to play a certain amount of home and away games against our divisional opponents and the travel is not cheap. Our D2 team has been invited to play in the Lindenwood Showcase where many top 15 D2 teams compete. Our D3 team has also once again been invited to the Route 66 Showcase where many top 15 D3 teams compete. Showcases like these are what help prepare our team by playing against the top teams in the nation so that we can improve and be ready to beat them again during the National Tournament. To attend events like this, as well as maintain our current mandatory away games, the Razorbacks are going to need your help! Travel is our overwhelmingly largest expense item every year which includes hotels, buses, flights, and gas.
Need #3: Equipment
Being a club sport brings on a lot of hardships when it comes to equipment. Hockey is easily one of the most expensive sports out there with hockey skates averaging $750 and hockey sticks averaging $200. Therefore, our club tries to buy in bulk, making it easier and cheaper. We provide 3 sticks, one set of gloves, pant covers, socks, and jerseys to each player. But the thing that we run into every year is having the money all at once and all upfront. With the Razorback Hockey team establishing ourselves as an elite hockey club, these are the things we need to provide so that we can adequately perform on the ice and bring good hockey players to our school by having an attractive program.
There are many ways that you can help us succeed and raise money for our season. Our biggest one is by donating money to one of our various levels that are posted on the site or a custom amount of your choosing. The second way that you can help is by sharing this on your social media or emailing it out to friends, family, etc. as well as following us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. The last way that you can help is by trying to make Razorback Hockey known in N.W.A as well as coming out to support us at our home games! We go through a LOT of tape as a hockey team, as in over 600 rolls per season across two teams. We also buy smelling salts, pucks, practice jerseys, and other small purchases. This level represents the things that are small but so vital to us every year.
This will help cover the cost of our ice time for practices for both D2 and D3 and home games. We can't be successful without regular practice and this donation helps fund that!
We hope to reward our players with some new gloves. It is imperative for every one to have the same gloves so that we can look more official.
Since we are a club, we are responsible for a referee's travel and time they spend on the ice. It is very costly and we have to provide three each home game. With this level you will be helping with things such as referee hotel costs.
The most necessary thing for a hockey team is sticks and even today's models break quite often. Each player receives 2 sticks so this donation will help fund new sticks for a player so we can worry less about affording them and worry more about scoring with them.
The majority of our expenses comes from bus rentals and hotel costs. With your donation, we are able to fund our essential expenses and allow us to defend our conference title on any opponent's home turf.
Our goal is to be MACHA and National Champions in 2025 in both D2 and D3 and with this donation, you will help us get there!
