Background
Dating back to 2011, the University of Arkansas Razorback Disc Golf club team has provided an outlet for students of all backgrounds to get involved in an accessible, quickly growing sport. Disc golf is bigger than it has ever been and the ambitions of our club continue to match the growth of our sport. Our club offers opportunities for University of Arkansas students to gain disc golf experience at both the recreational and national tournament levels- the full spectrum of our sport. By providing options to compete, engage in casual practice, or just talk disc golf with other members, the Razorback Disc Golf club allows us to come together, spend time outdoors, and stay healthy while participating in a low impact activity.
What does the club do?
This year alone, we’ve traveled to four tournaments across the nation, begun to manage sponsorships with up and coming disc golf brands, and helped contribute to the region’s steadily increasing obsession with disc golf. Our club runs multiple weekly practices where members improve their skills on and off the course. Field work and putting sessions help us to learn technique and gain muscle memory, while scored, competition style rounds help to simulate tournament mentality for our members. With your help, the Razorback Disc Golf club team can expand our practice possibilities, continue to help student disc golfers experience large scale tournament environments, and allow University students to enjoy the comradery and community of a dedicated team.
Why does your help matter?
You can help us reach our goal of raising $2,000 by April 30th! All donations will be used to offset the cost of tournament travel and entry fees, equipment and apparel purchases, and event management for the betterment of both the local and large-scale disc golf scene. Our club is consistently involved in the NWA disc golf community, and we aim to continue that commitment. All University students are welcome, so donate and don’t forget to spread the word, helping us get discs into the hands of every student at the University of Arkansas!
Founded in 2011, the Razorback Disc Golf Club is entering its 13th year, and you've donated a dollar for every year we've been active!
Our members practice putting as much as possible to stay proficient on the green. This means that putters wear out much more quickly than other discs in our players' bags. Your donation of $30 or more allows us to purchase a pair of putters which can be used at practices and during competition!
During tournaments, our team strives to appear professional and prepared. To do this in our tournaments next year, we aim to purchase collared shirts for every competition member. Your donation pays for one of these shirts!
As a significant portion of our weekly practice, the team throws into nets and portable baskets while sometimes using tripods and cameras for film work. The most expensive of these items is the net, which can cost up to $70. Your donation pays for a new net for us to expand our practice regimen!
Your donation of $115 allows our club to purchase a practice basket. These can be organized just about anywhere to create a temporary course where "safari golf" can be played. Safari golf is a fun-oriented, relaxed way to play the game, and our club enjoys lighthearted rounds when we aren't in tournament prep. In addition, practice baskets can be set up during prep in order to practice putting!
Most tournaments which our team competes in have quite a high entry fee. Your donation of $160 or more pays for one of these entry fees, allowing us to attend more tournaments and give our players more tournament experience.
When travel, food, lodging, and other expenses are factored in, regional tournament participation costs a premium and can often be hard to afford for college students. Your donation of $450 or more pays for an entire tournament experience for a team of 4!
