Reason for the Project
This Arkansas Rugby team has fire and drive like no other. Our team has two spectacular coaches in Warren Fyfe and Frans Schimper, who drive the athletes to be the best rugby players they can be for themselves and for their teammates. Rugby is riding on this crazy amount of drive, but we need funding to be able to reach the heights to which we’re capable: a national championship.
Fighting to reach the highest division is only a stepping stone for this team, and we’re asking for your assistance to get there! Higher competition usually means additional trips and the costs can become taxing to these student athletes. To help support this team into the future, we need funding for travel to different competitions such as the D1A playoffs, 7's National Championships, and other potential tournaments. Further needs include new kits, practice gear, tackle bags, and other equipment to keep us at the top of our game. There are several rugby alumni who have been instrumental in this initiative to endow funds for the U of A intramural rugby team. An endowment will provide a permanent source of funding as our team continues to grow and achieve great success. Additionally, there is a rugby alum who has issued a challenge for every dollar raised he will match it up to $12,500.
The U of A Rugby Team has unimaginable potential, and we need YOUR help to unlock it. Support our efforts today. Woo Pig Sooie!
Men's Rugby has been at the University of Arkansas since 1971, making it the oldest club sport on campus. Having a long and storied history, sans a short hiatus in the early 2000s, the team began to pick up some heat by the late 2000s under Coach Warren Fyfe. U of A Rugby sat in Division 2 for a few years, until a few years of growth catapulted the program to a 2013 season berth in Division 1-AA. Today we sit firmly in Division 1-A, the highest level of competition in college rugby.
