WPS is Tradition

Any diehard University of Arkansas fan knows how to execute a perfect Hog Call. The “wooo” part of our famous battle cry should be held for exactly 6 seconds.

Bricks in the Wall

It took 2.5 million bricks to build Old Main, the most iconic building on the University of Arkansas campus. The north tower stands 130 feet tall and the south tower stands at 123 feet tall.

Seniors on the Sidewalk

Stretching more than five miles, the names of UA graduates are memorialized in one of our most unique traditions—Senior Walk. In 1986, university employees invented the Sand Hog, a machine that took the place of stamping names into the concrete by hand.

Happy Birthday

The U of A sure looks good at 145 years old! Cheers to the state of Arkansas’s flagship institution on reaching this milestone.

Academics? Got it covered.

There are 231 total undergraduate, Master’s, Doctoral and graduate certificate programs available at the University of Arkansas.

Quarter Ton Hog

Tusk IV, the university’s beloved live mascot, is a wily Russian Boar who weighs 475 pounds. You don’t want to mess with this hefty hog.

It’s Greek to Me

Located at 980 W. Dickson and modeled after the Theatre of Dionysus in Athens, Greece, the Greek Theater was given to the university as a gift from the Chi Omega sorority in 1930. From 1934 – 1991, the space under the stage was used for a rifle range by the Army ROTC. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Top of the Hill

The highest point on the University of Arkansas campus is the Rosen Center on Maple Avenue. At 1,465 feet above sea level, you are the biggest man or woman on campus when you stand here.

A Banner Year

The U of A was officially founded in 1871 and welcomed its first class of 8 students (7 male and 1 female) and 3 faculty members in 1872.

The Future Looks Bright

A record number of 5,000 incoming freshmen are estimated to gain admittance to the University of Arkansas this fall. From 8 in 1871 to 5,000 in 2016, each student is a reason to celebrate!
