What is FundRAZOR?

FundRAZOR, the official crowdfunding platform at the University of Arkansas, is designed to help faculty, staff and students raise money for innovative ideas and important initiatives on campus. Projects are created and promoted by U of A groups to fund everything from student scholarships and cutting-edge research to service trips and once-in-a-lifetime academic experiences.

University of Arkansas FAQ

Who can use FundRAZOR?

FundRAZOR project applications are open to students, faculty and staff at the University of Arkansas who want to raise money for university-based initiatives. Because it takes a crowd to bring a crowd, the most successful projects are organized by a team of at least four to seven members — plus as many ambassadors as possible!

Is my project suitable for FundRAZOR?

Crowdfunding works best for projects with clear, tangible goals and a specific deadline. Projects must support the U of A’s teaching, research and service mission, and applications must be approved by the sponsoring academic department or student group’s leadership and development teams before a final decision is made. If you’re unsure about whether or not your project is suitable for FundRAZOR, please email giveback@uark.edu.

How will people hear about my project?

FundRAZOR is designed to connect the Razorback family with the most innovative and inspiring ideas — ideas that will make a difference in the lives of others on campus and around the world. Crowdfunding relies on personal networking and peer-to-peer solicitation, so your best supporters may love the U of A, but they really love you and your project. Think family and friends you can contact through email and your group’s followers and fans on social media. If your team doesn’t have a large audience, FundRAZOR may not be the right fit for your project.

How much can we expect to raise?

Typical crowdfunding projects attract between $2,000 and $8,000. Of course, your project’s success depends entirely on the size of your crowd, the amount of effort devoted and the compelling nature of your cause. We’ll consider each project’s goal on a case-by-case basis. Remember, it’s best to set a modest, attainable goal — and blow past it.  People want to be part of a winning team and are more likely to support a project that’s gaining momentum and surpassing its goal.

How much time does it take to manage a FundRAZOR project?

A lot! The active phase of a campaign runs for 30 days, but teams should plan for about 10-12 weeks of dedicated, intensive work before, during and after. It’s recommended that the project leader devote approximately 1 hour per day — and that other team members commit to 30 minutes per day — during the active phase of your project’s campaign.

How do I get started?

If you're interested in applying for a crowdfunding project on the FundRAZOR site, we encourage you to first contact your unit’s development/fundraising office to gain their approval. Not sure who to contact? Feel free to complete the online application, and we'll route it to the appropriate office. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, but should be submitted at least 9 weeks before the desired start date of your 30-day campaign to allow ample time for approval, team training and preparation during the quiet phase of your campaign.

Can anyone make a gift to a FundRAZOR project?

Absolutely, and please do. While projects must originate from U of A students, faculty and staff, anyone can support these amazing projects.

Are FundRAZOR gifts tax-deductible?

A resounding yes. You'll receive an instant confirmation email, and an official U of A gift receipt will arrive a few days after you make your gift.

Can my employer match my gift?

They sure can! It’s possible for your gift to be doubled – or even tripled! You can find out if your company has a matching gift program here. If you are able to request a match from your employer, simply use EIN number 71-6056774 (University of Arkansas Foundation) and designate the gift to this fund. Questions can be directed to matching@uark.edu.
